は

は(wa) is the topic marker. Like all particles, it comes after what it marks. Although it is written with は (ha) it is read as wa.

Although the topic can also be the subject, please be aware there is a difference.
In English, the topic is generally the first thing you will see in a sentence at the start of a conversation (about topic).
Once a topic is established, you don’t need to keep repeating it, unless it changes.

Now that we have Nouns, です, and は under our belt, we can finally combine them into our first proper sentence. The pattern we’re going to use is AはBです – A is B
Word order wise, Japanese looks like: A, B is.

Examples

• 私わたしは先生せんせいです。(watashi ha sensei desu) I am a teacher.
• 私わたしは学生がくせいです。(watashi ha gakusei desu) I am a student.
• かれは男おとこです。(kare ha otoko desu) He is a man.
