にしろ

にしろ

にしろ

Regardless of if…
Dictionary form verb/noun/adjective + にしろ

にしろ is used to describe something not mattering. Its similar to “Regardless” or “Even if” in English.
This pattern is a more Formal/literary version of にしても

It may also be the command form of にする, so be careful to avoid confusing the two.

にせよ

You may substitute にせよ for にしろ.
にせよ is (to me) slightly more formal/older than にしろ

Examples

  • 負けるにしろ、やるだけのことはやる – Regardless of if I loose, I’ll do what I can.
  • 雪が降るにしろ、温かい服装をして頑張るまでだ – Regardless of if it snows, you’ve just got to try.
  • 厳しいにしろ、完璧にやるまでだ – Even if they are strict, we just need to do it perfectly.

にしろ+にしろ

Regardless of if you do or don’t
Word + にしろ + Word Negative form + にしろ

Although both にしろ can be used alone, it is most commonly used in pairs.
This is to draw attention to contrast between opposites.
The pairs usually attach to opposite meaning words, but sometimes a similar (Not same) meaning word is also ok.

Examples

  • にしろ降らないにしろ、試合あは続行だ – Regardless of whether it rains or not, the match will go on.
  • にせよにせよ、仕事に行かないといけない – Hot or cold, you have to go to work.
  • 地獄にしても地の果てにしても、必ず助け出す – It doesn’t matter if its hell or the ends of the earth, I will save you.
