やら

やら is a particle that indicates uncertainty.
It functions like the list particles か or や.

やら

や (Lists)
Plain form verb/noun/adjective + やら

This やら functions basically like や. It’s probably where や came from.
It is used to give examples, just like や.

Examples

• サイトやら仕事やらで忙しい – Busy with things like the website and work.
• 猫やら犬やら、なんでも飼っている. – Keeping things like cats and dogs as pets.
• スプーンやらグラス類やらのために会議を何度も行った – Held a lot of meetings over things like spoons and glassware. 

のやら

のか (Uncertainty)
Plain form verb/adjective + のやら + のやら
Noun + なのやら + なのやら

のやら is basically just のか. You should use it when you don’t know which is the case. 
This pattern is almost always going to use a final verb like “わからない”.
This pattern usually repeats, but the second one is occasionally omitted. 

Examples

• 美味しいのやら、美味しくないのやらわからない – I don’t know if it tastes good or not.
• 悲しいのやら嬉しいのやらわからない　- I don’t know if he’s happy or sad.
• 雨なのやら霧なのやらで空は暗いだ – Because of Rain? or Mist? the sky is dark. 
  
  

とやら

とかいう
Name + とやら

とやら is my personal favorite. It essentially means とか as in とかいう.
It is less certain than とか, which is more or less “probably”.
とやら is used when you really don’t remember what something was called.
とやら may appear as とやらいう (Kind of rare)

Examples

• ブライアンとやらからもらった – I got it from brian or whatever his name was. 
• Death Followsとやらで争っていた – They were fighting over the “death follows” or something. (Deathly hollows).
• 一丸号とやらいう船に乗った – Got on the ichimarugo or something boat. (Sounded like ichimarugo?)
• ゴブリンとやらに盗まれた – Stolen by a “Goblin?” 

Expressions

• どうやら – Somehow, Apparently
• なにやら – Something, some reason
• いつの間にやら – same as いつの間にか
