Noun + の + よう(な/に)
よう is a な adjective used to convert nouns or verb clauses into な adjectives. Its kind of like “~like” in English.
ような
Verb + ような functions as a な adjective representing the approximate state of the preceding clause. ような isn’t exact, and means “something like” rather than “is“
- 大木のような男だ – A man like a large tree.
- 子供をなぐるような人はきらいだ。- I hate people who would do something like hit a child.
- うそをつくような人は信じない – I don’t trust people who would do something like lie.
- 子猫をけるような人間は最低 – People who would do something like kick a kitten are the worst.
ように
This is the adverb form of the な adjective, よう。It is used to modify verbs.
- 猫のように食べた – Ate like a cat.
- 車を買うように見えた – It looked liked he was going to buy a car.
- あかちゃんのように泣いた – Cried like a baby.
