The most basic meaning of から is “from” or “since”. It is a particle used to indicate the point or time of origin. It attaches directly to a noun. 

Time Examples

• あさからまっていました – I’ve been waiting since morning.
• 12時から待っています。 – I’ve been waiting since 12.
• 10月から頑張った – I’ve been working hard since October

Place Examples

• 彼から聞きました – I heard it from him.
• 机から取ってください。- Take it from the table.
• アメリカから来ました。- I came from America.
